An important update from Mark Lloyd
Chief Executive, Angling Trust & Fish Legal

I’m writing to let you know that after just over 10 years leading the Angling Trust & Fish Legal, I will be moving on to pastures new this summer when I will take on the role of Chief Executive at The Rivers Trust, which is the umbrella charity for more than 60 member river trusts, working to protect, promote and enhance freshwater ecosystems.

The last decade, since the historic unification of angling organisations in 2009, has seen our organisations grow from 12 to 65 staff today. Our team has fought countless battles on your behalf and has developed many new programmes to help people discover the joy of fishing. I’m very proud of what we have all achieved together.

We have built a solid financial foundation for both organisations, more than doubled our membership income and secured several important long-term funding agreements. We have a really strong senior management group, leading teams of highly-committed staff and volunteers, working towards a clearly-defined strategy, so I’m confident that both our organisations are very well placed to continue this growth long into the future.

It’s very difficult to say goodbye to all the staff, volunteers and members who have helped make the vision of a united, professional representative body for all anglers become a reality. However, I am excited about my new role at The Rivers Trust and the opportunity to focus on finding solutions to the environmental degradation of our precious rivers, which is where my career started. I will continue to work very closely with the Angling Trust & Fish Legal to influence public policy in my new role through our collaborative initiative with WWF-UK and The Rivers Trust to restore healthy river catchments which is being supported by a number of charitable funding organisations.

My replacement will be appointed through an open, transparent recruitment process and details of how to apply are on the Angling Trust web site at www.anglingtrust.net/vacancies. It’s a very challenging, wide-ranging and rewarding job, and a unique opportunity for someone who is passionate about fish and fishing to make a real impact on the lives of millions of anglers and billions of fish!

Thank you so much for the support you have given to me and everyone at the Angling Trust & Fish Legal over the past decade. I hope that you will continue to be a member long into the future.  Please do everything you can to encourage others to join us to support the excellent work we do – there is an excellent summary of the work we have done together over the last 10 years at www.anglingtrust.net/10years - which I hope many of you have seen already.

With all best wishes,

Mark Lloyd
Chief Executive
Angling Trust & Fish Legal
