Re climate change:

There is nothing quite like going to a realiable '3 bucket' monitoring site (one that you take 3 buckets to due to the number of fry you expect to catch) and finding none...absolutely none; then looking at the next site and finding none...and then none at the next, and then none at the next..... to focus the mind.

This happened on the Usk and lower Wye in 2016. The reason: the water in Nov/Dec 2015 was too warm for salmon to spawn sucessfully as storm Desmond and Frank sucked warm wet air up over Wales (+7 degree temp anomoly)

We will see the impact of this years extreme summer everywhere soon. Unlike 1976 it has been global and global wheat is trading at £190/tonne for Jan. £150/tonne was one of the main contributing factors of the Arab spring. wheat.png

Bread is expected to go up by over 30% this autumn.

Potatoes that have not been irrigated are expected to have half the normal yeilds, and several farmers I know are sending their stock to the abbatoir as they have no feed for them this winter. The grass never grew after the first cut and some maize planted in mid May hasn't germinated! 3 months with only 10mm of rain.... much worse than 1976.

These severe events are mounting up and in combination can only be explained by climate change. Remember that this year is not an el nino year.

Here are some maps that were produced by NASA and shocked me...do we really want to leave the bottom 2 for our children...the third one equals a global population of <3billion.....

We have the knowledge and opportunity to chose a different course, but it will take a bottom up transformation as our politicians are controlled by fossil fuel money and a 5 year electoral cycle. 92% of the UK population support onshore wind (the cheapest form of energy in the UK) but 55% of politicians oppose it. Eating less meat, opting for a renewable energy supply and not flying is great start which we can all do and also improves the household finances.
