Saw this on the Fly Fishing forum. Couldn't have said it better myself. Been saying it for years actually.
Today 30" fish from the Red Lion to Geoff O'Neil on a f/c.His first after several years of trying.

I am new to the forum but not to the Wye. Since I was demobbed in the sixties I have fished the river for salmon ever since. I have seen the good years as well as the bad, but this year so far its looking ugly. Agreed there has been some nice fish caught but so few. The editor posted on here a while ago an article asking where has all the Salmon gone and the trust wants to raise a million to find out. With what has been spent on the Wye a million seems minuscule. Having seen the decline over very many years I think it will take a lot more than fencing and coppencing to restore the runs. I consider myself very lucky to have fished the Wye in its glory years.
