Four fish Friday and Saturday for Phil Silk, Nathan Jubb and Steve Dawes.
Very local angler seems not to have been out on the Rectory -everyone else has!

Do you fish for salmon in England or Scotland?

Have your say and save 20,000 salmon every year!

More than 20,000 salmon are caught by targeted commercial net fisheries in England every year (1) and the time has come to bring this unsustainable practice to an end.

The Angling Trust has been working with the Environment Agency as part of the Save our Salmon campaign to develop proposals to further restrict commercial netting of salmon in England, particularly closing down the mixed stock coastal net fishery that continues to operate in the northeast.

You can have your say on the proposals via an online consultation launched yesterday!

The proposals are quite complex and therefore we’ve created a guide to responding to help you.

We’ve battled the Environment Agency to prevent them forcing compulsory catch and release on salmon anglers. This is what is being proposed in Wales, and we completely disagree with that.

Instead, we’ve managed to negotiate a set of voluntary proposals that include ensuring good practice when salmon fishing to increase the survival rate of released fish and trying to increase catch and release rates by anglers. We recognise that anglers have their part to play in salmon conservation, but to restrict us further when thousands of salmon are being killed every year by nets, agricultural pollution, fish-eating birds and low flows would be absolutely ridiculous.

Please have your say by the 9th October deadline and make sure our enormous collective voice is heard!

Yours faithfully,
The Angling Trust Campaigns Team.
