THANKS
Not sure anyone wants to see a repeat of yesterdays antics on much of the river. What with a raft race too on the beats above Ross, much of the river was virtually out of bounds to anglers for most of the day. The fact that conditions were very poor for anglers is no excuse and had conditions been good then open conflict was a distinct possibilty though anglers in ones or two's can't make much of an impact on loads of canoeists some showing signs of having had too much to drink as they' enjoyed a good day out'.
Something has to be done and with the responsibility for control of navigation in the hands of the EA surely they must be prevailed upon to take some action otherwise anglers, paying considerable amounts for a day ticket and an EA licence will be leaving the river, unwilling to face so much hassle.
So far EA and indeed WUF have remained silent on the issue which is pretty disgraceful in my opinion but so far both seem unwilling to address the issue. WSA I am sure will be making represention to those in authority shortly with no one else seemingly willing to represent anglers interests whatsoever. If your not already a member could I please urge you to join. (www Wyesalmonassocition.com
The river is after all an SAC and I feel sure the trashing of it would not be tolerated elsewhere with open trespass, and littering, deliberate interference with anglers and loutish behaviour and language.
We have two EA Navigation Officers but quite what they do I have no idea.
The Hay on Wye Literary Festival is now in full swing with the river just a playground for the masses, never mind worrying if the antiquated sewage works is being able to cope with all the extra excrement. Lets just hope they can cope. I fear a good thunderstorm, which admittedly looks unlikely, would overload the system and they would have to let untreated sewage into the river. In it's current low state this could be a disaster waiting to happen, though they can legally do it.
Not surprisingly no fish have been reported so far yesterday or today anglers arriving on the lower river simply didn't put up their rods as the water quality due to algae was disgraceful. WUF report nutrient as being reduced but it shows you don't take much they say at face value with the streamer weed now taking advantage too and becoming a real nuisance, causing some stretches to be almost unfishable.
Other than that what's to worry about!!!!!
