New Study Reveals Behaviour of Wild Atlantic Salmon at Sea
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some results from ASF's marine tracking program were published this month in the ICES Journal of Marine Science. The authors, which include ASF's Jonathan Carr, and biologist Graham Chafe, used four years of data from kelts fitted with satellite tags in the Northwest Miramichi River.
Information on depth, light intensity, and temperature was tracked as the large fish left the freshwater and headed toward Greenland. This is the first detailed study of the routes multiple Atlantic salmon take through the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Labrador Sea.
